Tickets for regular trains on or before June 30 cancelled

 Indian railways has said that all tickets booked for regular passenger trains for travel on or before June 30 stand cancelled; passengers to get full refund. 

Indian Railways has decided to cancel old normal trains till June 30, 2020 and only special trains will operate.

To clear the extra rush of passengers and for the benefit of the interested tourist, for the ensuing summer season 2014, South Eastern Railway has decided to extend the run of following  AC Premium special trains as per schedule mention below :

1). Weekly Premium summer season AC special express train 2014 between Howrah and Yesvantpur.

Introduction of New DMU Train between Delhi Sarai Rohila and Farukh Nagar



To fulfill passengers’ demand and for the convenience of the passengers, which was announced in the Rail Budget 2012- 13  Railways have decided to run a DMU Train between  Delhi Sarai Rohila / Garhi Harsaru - Farukh Nagar - Delhi Sarai Rohila,has been introduced on 06/06/2013 with the introduction of the new DMU Train No. 74032 / 74033 six days a week, passengers will get the following trains services to continue between Delhi Sarai Rohila – Garhi Harsaru - Farukh Nagar as per the following schedule :

Introduction of New Daily Express Train between Mannargudi and Coimbatore in Southern Railway


To fulfill passengers’ demand and for the convenience and to facilitate Mumbai  and Gujrat bound passengers, Railways have decided to run a daily  Express Train between Mannargudi and Coimbatore, ‘Chemmozhi’ Express from Mannargudi on everyday with effect from 11/06/2013 and from Coimbatore on everyday effect from 12/06/2013, as per the following schedule :

Half yearly and yearly season ticket system will be introduced very soon in Indian Railway


Ministry of Railway has decided to introduce half yearly season ticket (HST) and yearly season ticket (YST) with effect from 01/04/2013, for the facility of passengers of suburban areas of which majority are season ticket holders, in addition to provision of Monthly season tickets (MST) and quarterly season tickets (QST).The Half yearly and Yearly season tickets will be available for the all categories of passengers.

The half yearly season tickets (HST) and yearly season tickets (YST) shall be chargeable 5.4 tmes as against 06 times and 10.8 times as against 12 times of the monthly season ticket (MST) respectively. This ratio shall be applicable for both first class and second class season tickets commuters.

The Izzat monthly season tickets (MST) and free monthly season tickets (MST) for students shall continue to be issued only on monthly basis.Similarly; the concessional season tickets issued to the students shall be issued on monthly and quarterly basis only.

No refund shall be permissible for the half yearly season tickets and yearly season tickets (YST), as in the monthly season tickets (MST) and quarterly season tickets (QST) because season tickets are non refundable.

Service tax on AC and first class rail fares from October





Service tax will be added on high-end passenger classes, freight and auxiliary services rendered at railway stations from 1 October 2012. Railway Ministry was under Trinamool Congress and Trinamool was against rise of fare and freight. The decision was taken on 26 September at a meeting between new Railway Minister C.P. Joshi and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. This is considered as a first move of new Union Railway Minister to revive the financial condition of Indian Railways. Fares of air-conditioned classes will go up by 3.708 per cent and that of first class by 7 per cent. Freight charges will be increased also by 3.708 per cent. Passengers enjoying auxiliary services at stations will have to pay 12.36 per cent more as compared to previous charge.

Automatic Ticketing Kiosks (ATKs) for Western Railway commuters


Western Railway has installed two Automatic Ticketing Kiosks (ATKs) at Churchgate railway statso that the commuters need not required to stand on long queue. Automatic Ticketing Kiosks allows passengers to buy tickets, recharge smart cards and renew season tickets. Exact fare to be tendered in the machine to get the service.


Installation of Automatic Ticketing Kiosks at Churchgate stationis taken as a pilot project and after verifying the performance, the machines will be installed in other Western Railway stations.


Automatic Ticketing Kiosks will accept currency notes from Rs. 5 to Rs. 500. The machine will not accept wet, old, fake, moist and mutilated currency notes.

C P Joshi is the new Railway Minister



Senior Congress leader from Rajasthan and Union Minister C P Joshi is the new Railway Minister after Trinamool Congress ministers resigned from their posts including former Railway Minister Mukul Roy. Trinamool Congress has also withdrawn their support from UPA II government on 21 September.


After two decades any Congress leader will become the railway minister. C P Joshi is the first leader from Rajasthan to become railway minister of India.


Chairman of railway board Vinay Mittal has greeted C P Joshi. Mr. Mittal was the brain behind fare hike at the time of former railway minister Dinesh Trivedi. Now it is to be observed whether passenger fare is increased or not.
